When I was 12-15 years old, the absolute highlight of my month was receiving
your list. I am now 40, so that means 1972-1975! Most of the income from my
earliest jobs went to either you or the local coin shop. I still have many
interesting coins I earned by chopping wood and mowing lawns for $1-2/hour,
for example a piece from the Lazareto Leper Colony. A common coin that I
probably paid only $1 for, but one of MANY that has fascinated me for all
these years.
When I was 16, it was off to Cornell Engineering School and my coin collecting
went into hibernation for some time as I was barely able to keep up with
schoolwork, let alone have a life. By the time I emerged with a PhD I had
lost touch with you
I recently saw your ad in Coin World and was flooded with memories. Thanks to
the Internet, I can see your Interesting Stuff anytime! It was also nice to
see your picture with your family and put a face to the lists/coins/Joel of
years back. Your site/business is really great!!! I'm looking forward to

The coin arrived safely yesterday, earlier than expected so it was a nice surprise!
Beautiful condition without a single smudge or fingerprint. Your care in handling the coin is appreciated. Some people aren't as thoughtful. Once I received two nice, old French 5 Franc coins (from a seller in France) that were actually taped to the back of a piece of cardboard! Needless to say, I had to clean off the residue from the tape, which certainly devalued the coin.

Thank you. The replacement kointain arrived today. I was shocked to find the original shattered, and the Edison Light Bulb coin loose in the mailer pack. I had a good laugh when I saw all the packing material you used to mail this one. No matter how roughly those postal gorillas treated this package, there's no way they could damage it.

Whenever I show my coins to friends and come to the Edison coin, I always tell the story of how it arrived loose with the shattered kointain. Now I'll be sure to add your quick response to my problem. I may even keep the package to show how much care you took to ensure this one would arrive intact. You're a class act.

Today the coins have arrived. The Triastan da Cunha set is beautiful. Too
bad the Fiji 1942 1/2 penny coin has a fairly large green spot (the ad did
indicate an F grade, so I did not expect much). One of the two Jamaica coins,
though UNC, has a number of black dots on both sides. Not really pretty.

I'm also pleased to get the cobalt plated coin. My primary collecting interest at the moment is elements and I'm trying to get examples of different metals used in coins or medals, which is difficult in many cases because of limited numbers and the number of people doing the same. I received your packet of Japanese hansatu notes plus the coins I ordered. Thanking you for your prompt attention and service. Just a query on the pu yi coin. I notice it has heavy filing marks on the surface of the coin. Is this fairly typical on Chinese coins of this era? I have been a collector of Chinese cash coins for many years. This is the first example I've come across. There of course are many examples of forged Chinese coins coming onto the market lately. I hold a couple myself. They are becoming more difficult to detect. The pu yi seems ok to me but I wonder about the filing marks. If you could supply any details about it, I would appreciate the reply.

Also experiencing some technical difficulties of your web site of late going at snail pace. Should like to do business with you in future.

I like the stamps. It almost makes me regret I gave up collecting stamps.
But there's one on the envelope you sent me, a 5-cent glorifying a Dutch flag, which boggles my mind. Since I'm Dutch, probably.
I don't understand its meaning. Was this just one out of a series of world flags?

In case you made this yourself to brighten the day of your Dutch customers, then thank you again. It worked.
(But if this is a normal state-issued stamp, then I don't get it. But I like the puzzlement.)

I received my package last week (yeah it took long but it's because Canada Post was paralysed lately...), I must tell you that you are great at packaging; everything arrived in perfect shape.
It was quite a big purchase in quantity so I had to check if everything was there...
you'll find a copy of your email below and in the list, I can't find #1, #2 and #14 in my package...
I didn't write down everything when I selected many items on your site so I returned to check the pictures that goes with the name of these items...

I developed an interest in foreign money about 7 years ago, when I started working at a drycleaners. I have received the replacement banknotes today. Rest easy.

The 100 mix has some very interesting and esquisite notes. The Zambia notes especially the 50 Kwacha are astounding ! wow!
The Iraq 1 Dinar was an obvious photocopy and made me giggle. No harm done. I dont like Iraq anyway. (or Afganistan)

The Cambodian, Nigeria and Biafra notes were great.

The Budapest 100 note was very different in style for me. Very regal. very nice.

The Cook Island $3 was a disappointment. Pretty, but to me just a coupon with a serial number. Yet they command a premium price. I am glad i only bought the one.
This is not a complaint, just feedback. Probably heard it all before. I personally won't buy any Cook Is notes now unless i see them first hand.

But to you Joel, I must personally commend you for fixing me up with a replacement in such quick time and without the slightest grumble.
It is very professional of you to absorb what appears to be a loss for you.( ie - the first missing shipment of banknotes) and for that I still hope it
wasn't anything/anyone from the Australian side of the process.

Thanks for the prompt shipment. The coins arrived today and the supplies yesterday. I couldn't wait to open the coins and scooped out a couple of handfuls to examine. Looks like a promising mix, as I spotted Morocco, Belgium, Mexico, Canada, UK, Hong Kong and others I did not have. The best find so far is an 1808 East India Company X cash for the Madras Presidency.

I have recently bought mixes from 3 other sources. I thought the first would remain the best but yours may give it a run for the money. All the mixes have been fine for me, as a new collector, and each has had its strong points. I'm sure I shall enjoy sorting through yours.

I received my three sets of coins today. Thank you for such fast service. I posted a very positive comment on the "Coin World" Internet site in regards to the article that they wrote pertaining to your coin offerings.

I noticed, however, on only one of my "five Dollar" coin that the first three letters of ~~ IIPaya ~~ are nearly missing. The "I I P" letters on the other two "five dollar" coins are raised, as are all of the lettering on the other coinage.

Maybe I have my first "error" coin from this coin set.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with these coins. Thank you for your catalogs. I will make some modest purchases in October.

Joel - It is okay to remove my name from your catalog mailing list.
A few years ago, when metal prices were a lot higher, I switched
from being a collector to a seller. I sold off about 20% of my collection
(mostly the high priced stuff like gold and platinum proof sets and non-album
silver).

Last year, I divided up the rest of my collection and gave it to my children
and grandchildren. I had a massive collection, including at least one example
of every coin ever circulated in the U.S. except a few of the very rare gold pieces.
I also had every commemorative coin and coin set. The only thing I buy now are
all the mint and proof sets offered by the U.S., so that I can update the live albums
which I distributed to my family.

I was most proud of my foreign coin collection, however, many of which were
purchased from you over the years. I was always pleased with the coins I bought
from you and the way you did business. I also bought a lot of foreign coins in the
93 countries I have visited, from street vendors to high-end shops. I have also
bought foreign coins from shops in just about every state in the U. S. My foreign coin
collection had over 4000 coins, included every country in the model world and
over 300 states, provinces, cantons, etc.in the old world. The coins dated from 1600
to 2012. It was a good mix of common date coins and very scarce coins. Many of the
coins in the collection, I never saw but once, and just about every time I found a coin
I had never seen before, I bought it. I had a price limit of $400 per coin, however.

I want to thank you for being a good and reliable vendor. I believe you were always
fair and reasonable with your prices, and you always delivered the grade you
advertised. I can not say that about some other vendors. I have a high regard for your
integrity.

I recently started working at an Assisted Living facility on the weekends and I shared my collection at an activity we call 'Coffee Chat' on Saturday and Sunday morning.

What I particularly appreciate are the historical descriptions, that link coins coins with their history. It's interesting and give us also the taste to buy them …

By the way, where do you find all these interesting anecdotes about coins ? Are there books telling these "small" stories that you can't find in general history books either because it passionate only coin collectors or because they are too focused on specific aspects of circulating coins that everybody has forgotten ? Or are they from your own knowledge acquired along the years of practising your job ?

Personnally I have many questions that I've asked even well-known merchants but often they have no answers (e.g. why the 1925-27 Zog I albanian coins are so scarce and you can ONLY find some XF/UNC coins as if they never entered circulation: have they been all melted or only given to members of the government ? Are the mintage figures right or over rated ? etc).

To end up, I wanted to leave positive feedback about your shop but I found the comment page on the website, but not the way to leave a comment … Maybe I'm stupid but …

I want to thank you specially for your small newspaper about coins, I read it always from the beginning to the end and I appreciate all the numismatic and historical details. For me it's an important part of the pleasure to collect, because each coin has its own story, sometimes very normal, but sometimes surprisingly odd.

I am biologist and teacher of science and maths, but I am also interested about history (and a lot of other things, I play a lot of music and tennis), and via coins, one can learn very interesting things (to my eyes !!!).

I even tell stories I learnt in your paper to my children and my wife and they are interested ! (normally they have no interest about my collection, they don't understand that I waste time to look after these small pieces of metal !!!).

So, have a nice day and I'm already looking after the next newspaper !!!
